Beer producer Heineken recorded 2015 revenue growth by 3.5% to 20.5 billion Euros. The most important market of the Dutch brewer remains Europe (which includes Romania), with revenues of 10.2 billion euros, up 1.4% over the previous year. Heineken’s operating profit increased last year by 6.9% to 3.4 billion euros, financial indicator in Europe registering growth above the group average of 7.3% to 1.2 billion euros.
Volumes of beer sold by the group in 2015, which include sales of cider, amounted to 132.3 million hectoliters, of which 23.6 million hectoliters were sold in Europe.The group recorded cider category for the first time last year, selling over a million hectoliters outside Britain, the country of origin of the brand Strongbow, stimulated by significant increases in Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. In Romania, Strongbow cider was launched by Heineken in early spring last.
Heineken is the third largest global brewer after Anheuser-Busch InBev and SABMiller, which groups most likely will merge later this year, forming a giant in this market. In Romania, the Dutch group owns together with the main competitor Ursus Breweries (SABMiller), approximately 60% of the beer market.
