Mystery Santas gave an early Christmas present to customers at Walmart stores in three states by secretly paying off $484,000 they owed on festival purchases put aside with the retailer.
Walmart said benefeciaries at some stores in Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania had their balances on vacation layaway records paid off by unknown contributors.
With layaway, customers make their payments on the purchases, mostly festival gifts, over time and get the products when they are paid for.
One individual gave $106,000 to wave off budgets at two stores in upper east Ohio. Another gave $200,000 for layaway tabs at two stores in Gainesville, Florida, and a nearby Pennsylvania business tycoon who calls himself “Santa Clause B” paid off $158,000 at stores in Harrisburg and Mechanicsburg, Wyatt Jefferies, a representative for Wal-Mart Stores Inc, said.
Smaller donations amounting a few thousand dollars additionally have been gotten, he included.
Jefferies said the firm contacts clients by phone if their bills have been paid off. Ocassionally, they, in turn, give to other layaway tabs, he said.
The company said in a statement that they are glad to be a part of these random acts of Kindness.
