The UK Government Wants More Apprentices Employed

Wednesday, 03 February 2010 11:34 News

Morrisons employees have agreed to be part of the apprentice scheme funded by the Government in the UK. Morrisons have reported that 5,500 of their staff are to be part of the scheme, and the National Apprentice Service (NAS) understand that 72 per cent of businesses that have apprentices

say they make a positive contribution.

The UK Government want to have more 16 to 17 year olds in the apprentice project, and aim for one in five, by 2020. Grants are available for employers, £2,500 for each apprentice they employ.

The scheme will be furthered by the DIY chain, B&Q, who are hoping to take on 300 apprentices this year, that is more than last year.
