The marketplace for confectionery and snack items
The International Sweets and Biscuits Fair (ISM) in Cologne once again promises to be fully booked with high-quality exhibitors. About 1,600 companies from approximately 70 countries are expected to exhibit at the 37th ISM from 28th to 31st January 2008. The exhibitors will include key market leaders as well as numerous small and medium-sized enterprises. Since more than 80 per cent of the exhibitors are expected to come from abroad, ISM will be the world’s most important marketplace for confectionery and snack items. In addition, trade visitors can look forward to an attractive special show on the presentation of confectionery. Following its successful premiere in 2006, ProSweets, the international supplier fair for the confectionery industry, will be held next year for the second time. This event will overlap with ISM on three days (29th January to 1st February 2007)
.
Extending over a period of four days, ISM will present a comprehensive and diverse range of confectionery and snack items that is unparalleled worldwide. The trade fair will present a virtually complete overview of chocolate, sugar confectionery, biscuits, snack products, ice cream and raw pastes. Only end-products exclusively destined for retail sales will be presented.
Only specialist buyers from the wholesale and retail trades are admitted to ISM. As in previous years, a large number of buyers (35,249 from 155 countries) used the last event in January/February 2006 to gather information, establish direct contacts and place orders. The share of visitors from abroad again totalled about 60 per cent. The decision-making authority of the visitors who represented the key trading firms and purchasing cooperatives was again impressive. As in the past, they ensured that discussions and trading were very lively and international.
The supporting programme for ISM 2007 will include a special show on the presentation of confectionery. The show titled “Der süße Impuls – sweet impulses” will feature approximately 20 up-and-coming designers from the Cologne International School of Design (KISD) who will take an unprejudiced approach to finding new ideas and innovative concepts for the presentation of confectionery. The topics here will include impulse buying, points of sale, displays, and placement for promotional events. In addition, the concepts should be pioneering and visionary in nature. The results of this project, which is sponsored by Koelnmesse and managed by Professor Jenz Großhans, will be exhibited at the ISM special show in Passage 4/5.
ISM will occupy 110,000 m² of exhibition space in Halls 2, 3, 4, 10 and 11 at Koelnmesse. In addition to the Entrances East and West, which were already used in the past, ISM 2007 will also be accessible through Koelnmesse’s new Entrance South. This entrance provides travellers (in particular those arriving by train at the Köln-Deutz train station) direct access to the exhibition centre. Thanks to its spacious and eye-catching design, the new entrance is even visible from the railway platform.
And the Entrance East on Deutz-Mülheimer-Straße is being redesigned so that visitors can look forward to even more service offerings as well as a bright and friendly atmosphere. Along with the Entrance West, ISM will therefore have three attractive entrance areas that will ensure optimum visitor service, short distances and a uniform distribution of visitors throughout the halls.
Following its successful debut in 2006, ProSweets, the international supplier fair for the confectionery industry, will again be held next year. From 29th January to 1st February 2007 (including three days on which it takes place in parallel with ISM) ProSweets will again serve as an independent sector-specific platform for suppliers of packaging, ingredients and process and packaging technology for the confectionery industry. As was the case in 2006, ProSweets will once again occupy Hall 10.1 next year.
The organisers of ISM are Koelnmesse and the International Sweets and Biscuits Fair Working Group (AISM), which is the conceptual sponsor.
