Walmart stores in New York will stop using paper bags

Starting on Wednesday, all of the company’s locations in New York State will no longer offer paper bags at the register.
Nearly two years have passed since New York State implemented a ban on the sale of plastic bags. The regulation covered bags sold at establishments including grocery stores and restaurants that offer takeout when it entered into force in October 2020.

Single-use paper bags, which were utilized in various places throughout the state, and multi-use plastic bags will no longer be available, according to Walmart. The business said that these plastic bags met with local regulations, but they still intend to phase them out.

” The elimination of single-use bags in Connecticut is a part of Walmart’s drive to eliminate waste” , according to Jane Ewing, senior vice president of sustainability. “Our customers want to be involved in this journey, and we are committed to making the environmentally friendly option the default option.”

Walmart said that by offering discounts on bags in numerous states, including Connecticut, they are eliminating the usage of more than 1.2 billion plastic and paper bags.
